SAINT-DENIS, France (August 6, 2024)
Gabby Thomas of the United States has won the gold medal in the women's 200-meter final at the Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old Harvard University alum ran a personal best of 21.81 seconds to claim victory.
Thomas's victory is a major upset, as she was not considered one of the favorites heading into the race. However, she ran a brilliant race and held off a strong challenge from Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Thomas is now the first American woman to win the Olympic 200-meter title since 1992. Her victory is a major boost for the United States track and field team, which has struggled in recent years.
