Euro 2012: Spain Crowned Champions

Defeat Italy in Final to Claim Third Title

Spain claimed their third UEFA European Championship title on July 1st, 2012, after defeating Italy 4-0 in the final at Kyiv's Olympic Stadium.

The Spanish dominated the match from start to finish, taking the lead in the 14th minute through David Silva. Fernando Torres doubled their advantage seven minutes later, before David Silva added his second and Spain's third just before half-time.

Italy never recovered from the early setback and were unable to create any clear-cut chances in the second half. Spain added a fourth goal in the 84th minute through Juan Mata to seal a comprehensive victory.

The triumph was Spain's third European Championship title, following their successes in 1964 and 2008. They became the first country to win three European Championships, and the first to retain the title.
