Congestion Pricing Plan Unveiled in New York City
New Plan Aims to Reduce Traffic and Improve Air Quality
After years of anticipation, New York City's congestion pricing plan has finally been cleared by the Biden administration. The scheme, which aims to reduce traffic, improve the city's air, and generate new revenue, is expected to be implemented in 2024.
Details of the Plan
Under the plan, drivers entering the busiest parts of Manhattan during peak hours will be charged a fee. Cars using an E-ZPass will pay a maximum of $23 during peak hours and $17 during off-peak periods. Trucks and buses will pay higher rates.
Concessions Included
The final environmental assessment includes concessions. Passenger and commercial vehicles will now pay $15 to enter the congestion relief zone, which is below 60th Street in Manhattan.
